Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology

McPherson College seeks an enthusiastic student-centered professor to join the Natural Sciences Department for the 2025-26 academic year as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology. This is a full-time, tenure track benefits eligible position.

The successful candidate will assume responsibility for providing 24 credit hours of instruction in both major and general education courses including College Biology I, Introductory Biology, and Genetics per academic year. Additionally, the candidate may develop new courses within their area of expertise. The person in this appointment will maintain regular office hours, attend meetings, advise Biology majors, assist with recruiting and with undergraduate research, participate in the governance of the college, and perform other duties within the scope of this position as assigned.

A terminal degree in Biology or a related field is required (ABD candidates are invited to apply as well). The ideal candidate will have a record of exceptional teaching at the undergraduate level. The person in this appointment will teach major and general education courses, design and offer online courses when possible, maintain regular office hours, attend meetings, advise Computer Science majors, assist with recruiting, participate in the governance of the college, and perform other duties within the scope of this position as assigned.

A minimum of a Ph.D. degree in computer science or a related field is preferred (ABD candidates as well as candidates with master’s degrees will also be considered for this appointment). The ideal candidate will have teaching or scholarly experience in one or more of the following areas: cybersecurity, data science/analysis, machine learning, or software development. Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of high-quality teaching experience at the collegiate level. Candidates must possess the ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods, relate to diverse students, and facilitate student learning.
